Having assembled at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, the members of the European Film Agency Directors Association (EFADs) have set out their common vision of the key challenges and opportunities of the digital single market. The text recommends that the European institutions act to build a sustainable and fair market favouring an equal footing for all European and global market players. The EFADs members also underlined the new obstacles on the road towards a single digital audiovisual market that is open and competitive, as there is a risk of certain companies abusing their dominant positions.

Other points that were addressed include the need to improve the promotion of, and access to, European works, including via a more attractive legal offering of European films and by undertaking stronger actions aimed at combating piracy.

The text also demands that there be guaranteed stable and clear copyright rules and fair remuneration for creators, and that the principle of territoriality, on which the entire funding model for audiovisual and cinematic works is founded, must be protected.
