05/06/2015 - New Danish features by Daniel Dencik and Frederikke Aspöck have been selected for the festivals in Russia (19-26 June) and the Czech Republic (3-11 July)

Danish director Frederikke Aspöck, whose feature debut, Out of Bounds [+see also:

film profile], premiered at Cannes in 2011, will launch her second film, the romantic drama Rosita [+see also:
trailer
film profile], at the 37^th Moscow International Film Festival, which takes place between 19 and 26 June.

Scripted by Kim Fupz Aakeson, and starring Mikkel Boe Følsgaard and Jens Albinus, Rosita is the story of Johannes, who lives with his father, Ulrik, in a small fishing town. Missing the love and tenderness of a woman, Ulrik arranges for a young Filipino girl, Rosita, to come to Denmark – but it is Johannes and Rosita who end up getting more and more attracted to each other.

Produced by Thomas Heinesen, for Nordisk Film Production, with the Danish Film Institute and Danish commercial pubcaster TV2, and co-produced by Radiator Film, the movie’s international sales are handled by TrustNordisk.

film profile], will have its international premiere when it opens the competition at the 50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (3-11 July) – Dencik was also at the Czech festival last year with a documentary, Tal R: The Virgin.

Scripted by Dencik, and produced by Michael Haslund-Christensen, for Haslund/Dencik Entertainment, with InGenius Africa and other local partners in Ghana, Gold Coast deals with a dark chapter in Danish history: Denmark's role in the transatlantic slave trade.

In 1836, a Danish botanist, Frederik Wulff, goes to Africa, on orders from the king, to monitor the work on a coffee plantation on the then Gold Coast. His best intentions and Christian beliefs are soon met with the harsh reality of unbelievable brutality.

Dencik has used Wulff’s own letters and diaries for his script – he is played by Jakob Oftebro, who co-stars with Danica Curcic as a young missionary, Caroline. David Lynch composer Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, among others) has written the score for the film, which SF Film will open domestically on 2 July.
