The 11th FEST New Directors / New Films came to an end last night at a ceremony that crowned Line of Credit [+see also:

film profile] by Salomé Alexi with the top prize – the Best Feature Film Award.
Originally discovered in the Horizons section of the latest Venice Film Festival, this co-production between Georgia, France and Germany follows a 40-year-old woman who lived a comfortable life in the Soviet Union. Now living in Georgia, she finds it hard to readjust to her new living standards, and is caught up in a loan and a vicious circle that she can’t get out of.
Two Special Mentions in the fiction section were granted to Bas Devos’ Violet [+see also:

interview: Ivan Gergolet
film profile] by Ivan Gergolet won the Best Documentary Award, whilst the Audience Awards went to Shipwreck by Morgan Knibbe (short) and Transit by Hannah Espia (feature).
In the shorts categories, the winners were Démontable by Douwe Dijkstra (Best Experimental Short), Is Longing Hereditary by Gitte Hellwig (Best Documentary Short), Whole by Robert Banning and Verena Klinger (Best Animation Short), and Everything Will Be Okay by Patrick Vollrath (Best Live Fiction Short).
