Morricone and Tarantino team up for The Hateful Eight
- The Legendary Italian composer will be putting together the soundtrack for the new western of the American director, which is due for release in December
Italian maestro Ennio Morricone will be composing the soundtrack for The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino’s new western, which is due for release in December. Making the announcement was the director himself at Comic-Con in San Diego. The pair met last June in Rome, at the David di Donatello awards ceremony.
It will be the first time that one of Tarantino’s films has an original soundtrack instead of using a compilation of existing musical pieces. Morricone worked with the American director on Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds [+see also:

film profile], and in 2013, Tarantino used some of the famous tracks composed by Morricone for Sergio Leone’s films in Django Unchained. The 95-year-old composer once said that the two would never work together again, as “Tarantino inserts the music into his films inconsistently”. Yet here they are, set to work together again.
In 2007 Morricone received the Academy Honorary Award after being nominated for Academy Awards 5 times between 1979 and 2001. He rose to fame in the 1960s and 70s with his compositions for Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, with whom he continued to work right up to 1984, for Once Upon a Time in America. His most famous soundtracks include that which he wrote for The mission (1986) by Roland Joffé. In Hollywood, Morricone is famous for having worked with legendary filmmakers such as John Carpenter, Brian De Palma, Barry Levinson, Mike Nichols and Oliver Stone. European directors he has worked with include Giuseppe Tornatore, Roman Polanski, Pedro Almódovar, and Kenneth Branagh.
