Diastème starts filming The Summer of All My Parents
by Fabien Lemercier
- The director dives into the world of adolescence after the scandalous French Blood. A Karé production that will be sold by Films Distribution
Today marks the first slam of the clapperboard for Diastème’s 3rd feature film: The Summer of All My Parents [+see also:
film profile] (Juillet Août). After Sunny Spells [+see also:
film profile] (2008) and French Blood [+see also:
film profile] (a film on the redemptive journey of a member of the extreme right which sparked a lot of controversy when it was released in theatres last month), the director (a multi-talented artist who started out as a musician before getting noticed as a novelist and successful playwright) has gathered together a cast which includes Patrick Chesnais (nominated for the César in 2006 for Best Actor for Not here to be loved [+see also:
film profile] and for the César in 2014 for Best Supporting Actor for Bright Days Ahead [+see also:
film profile]), Pascale Arbillot (Borderline [+see also:
film profile]), Thierry Godard (acclaimed for his performance in TV series Spiral and Un village français), Alma Jodorowsky and Luna Lou.
Written by Diastème (who has notably co-written Close to Leo by Christophe Honoré, Coluche, l'histoire d'un mec and Les Châteaux de sable in the past) and Camille Pouzol, the storyline of The Summer of All My Parents centres around a teenager of the tender age of 14, an age where everything is possible, yet also impossible. If Laura is a little character, it’s because she doesn’t always get her period, according to her sister. It’s because she’s been mollycoddled, according to her mother. Ah, she’ll grow out of it, thinks her father. Or is it because she’s being sent off to boarding school next year after a disastrous school year? Meanwhile, it’s the summer. Laura is due to go off on holiday, spending half of it in one place, half in another. A summer fraught with danger, surely. Or is it?
Produced by Antoine Rein, Fabrice Goldstein and Antoine Gandaubert for Karé Productions, The Summer of All My Parents is being co-produced by France 3 Cinéma and Belgian production company Umedia. Pre-purchased by Canal+ and D8, the film has also received funding from Soficas (finance companies for the film and audiovisual industry) La Banque Postale Images and A Plus Images. The eight weeks of filming, which will end on 17 September, will take place in Brittany, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and Paris. Distribution in France will be handled by Diaphana and international sales will be managed by Films Distribution.
Karé Productions is currently working on the post-production for Je suis à vous tout de suite [+see also:
