Sarajevo Laško Summer Nights to open with Amy

The Sarajevo Film Festival has revealed the line-up for its open air programme, Laško Summer Nights, which features some of the most talked-about documentaries of the year as well as one of the festival's documentary competition films, One Day in Sarajevo by Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić.

The programme will kick-off with Asif Kapadia's Amy [+see also:

Hoppe, Klaus Maeck, Heiko Lange, which combines music, art and chaos in the West-Berlin of the 1980s, will represent a bridge between the music-related titles and more politically inclined documentaries such as Jean-Gabriel Périot's marvellous archive footage documentary A German Youth [+see also:

- about the 1960 student movement in Germany and the Baader-Meinhof Group- which held its world premiere at the Berlinale and recently won the SCAM Award at Cinéma du Réel.

The Bosnian-Austrian co-production chronicles the 100th anniversary of Gavrilo Princip's assassination of Franz Ferdinand- heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire- sparking the First World War. The film presents various perspectives on the event by comparing and contrasting footage filmed by contemporary residents of Sarajevo (with small cameras and mobile phones) on the anniversary with scenes from feature films about the assassination by filmmakers from Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the United Kingdom.
