Prejudice opens the 30th FIFF
Préjudice by Antoine Cuypers

The 30th anniversary edition of the Namur International French-Language Film Festival will take place from 2 to 9 October 2015. Over the years, the FIFF has discovered a number of young filmmakers and actors by giving them pride of place in its programme and workshops, in a selection that often has a bit of a launch pad effect. Many films owe their very existence to the FIFF, a place of encounter, for exchanges and sharing of ideas between professionals from all walks of life. It’s this dynamic that the Festival has tried to highlight for this year’s 30th edition by opening the Festival with the debut feature film of young Belgian filmmaker Antoine Cuypers, Prejudice [+see also:

Prejudice is a variation on one of the most popular themes in contemporary fiction, the family dinner. During an everyday family dinner, Cédric, a thirty-year-old man still living with his parents, learns that his sister is expecting a baby. Whilst everyone around him is excited by this piece of news, he feels first resentful then angry, and tries to make others understand the harm that he believes has been done to him. Between paranoia and subterfuge, the family does everything it can to maintain its apparent harmony.

Prejudice is the first majority Belgian feature film to be produced by Wrong Men, a production company which is based both in Greece and in Belgium and was co-founded by Alexandra Bossiou, a Greek producer, and young producer Benoît Roland, formerly of Entre chien et loup (which produced Antoine Cuypers’ first short film, A New Old Story). Prejudice was co-produced by Lucil Film in Luxembourg, and CTM Pictures in the Netherlands. The film received backing from the Film and Audiovisual Centre, the Film Fund Luxembourg, and the Netherlands Film Fund. It will be distributed in Belgium by Cinéart, and in France by Les Films du Losange, which is also handling international sales.
