, for several years now the Paris-based outfit Capture the Flag Films has been establishing itself as a kind of anomaly within the landscape of today’s relatively cautious world of French film production (aside from the English-language blockbusters made by EuropaCorp) with its pure, unadulterated genre films. And while it is no longer about zombies this time around in Benjamin Rocher’s Antigang [+see also:

, which is hitting screens today, but rather an exploration of the crime-film world, the quest for effectiveness and stylisation are once again definitely present and correct in this film starring Jean Reno, Caterina Murillo, Alban Lenoir and Thierry Neuvic.

Written by Tristan Schulmann and François Loubeyre, the story revolves around Serge Buren, a legendary cop, surrounded by a bunch of young policemen who use rather unconventional working methods. Who cares if they use baseball bats or happen to “forget” the regulations during their spectacular arrests – the results speak for themselves! But that’s when a group of deadly armed robbers comes on the scene, cleaning out banks and jewellery shops in the capital with disconcerting ease, using weapons of war and boasting impeccable planning. Faced with such levels of cunning and brutality, Buren and his unit find themselves in a tricky situation: will their expeditious methods be enough to stop these crooks who are far more Machiavellian than even they are?

Produced by Raphaël Rocher and Henri Debeurme for Capture the Flag Films, Antigang was co-produced by SND (which is bringing out the film in French theatres and is in charge of the international sales), M6 Films and British company Vertigo Films.

Also hitting screens today are two movies screened very recently at Locarno: Summertime [+see also:
