Slovenia sends The Tree to the Oscars

The Association of Slovenian Filmmakers has announced that it has selected Sonja Prosenc's The Tree [+see also:

film profile] as the country's submission for the Best Foreign-language Film Academy Award.
The writer-director's debut feature world-premiered in the East of the West section of Karlovy Vary in 2014. It is a co-production by Monoo, Staragara, NuFrame and Slovenian National Television.
The Tree beat two other candidates: the crime comedy Tall Tales: Now You Are, Now You're Gone by Samir Bajric and the family drama/comedy Changing Emma by Alen Pavšar.
