CANNES 2003 Highlights

This year in Taormina

by

For the first time, Italian exhibitors will gather in the picturesque Sicilian setting of Taormina from 4-6 June for the presentation of the autumn/winter line up from Europe and beyond. The 49th edition of the Taormina BNL Film Fest, directed by Felice Laudadio, will begin the next day with the screening of Spanish noir, Palabras encadenadas. Laudadio emphasised the risk he was taking: this is Laura Maña’s second feature. Based on a play by Jordi Galceran, the film stars Darìo Grandinetti and Goya Toledo (the current Iberian Shooting Star) and was produced by Filmax.

Distributors will be encouraged to stay on for the Festival since several films are screening that are still in search of Italian distribution.
The main highlight will be the screening of the 15-hour Steven Spielberg-produced “Taken”, and the world famous Greek amphitheatre will also host its first satellite digital screening of a UK title.
