All new MIFED
After four months' silence, MIFED, Italy's premier film and audiovisual fair chose Cannes to present the novelties of the forthcoming edition and the new management team.
This will be MIFED's landmark 70th edition. Now and for the next 15 years, MIFED will be owned by "FMI - Fiera Milano International", the result of a joint venture between Italy's Fiera Milano Exhibitions and the UK's Reed Exhibitions, one of the world's leading organisers of exhibitions.
MIFED will run from 9-13 November this year, and be preceded by a day of Pre-Screenings. In answer to rumours on the Croisette of MIFED's possible cancellation from the calendar of major international events, Massimo Viviani, MD of FMI, accompanied by CEO, Piergiacomo Ferrari, and DG, Carlo Bassi, fired off some numbers.
"The 2002 edition saw a 52% increase in buyers and a 20% increase in exhibitors. Of course structural problems exist, but that is one of the issues the new team intends addressing and improving starting this year. We must simplify attendance procedures, improve signposting and create the clearest list of tariffs (including those of partners like print shippers). There are also plans for evening entertainment that we are organising in partnership with the Fashion Chamber of Commerce. We will achieve all this without losing sight of the needs of Italian and international industry operators, with whom negotiations are already underway."
