CANNES Certain Regard

An Italian history in pictures

by

- Marco Tullio Giordana’s film about the socio-political transformation of Italy over the last forty years screens in Un Certain Regard today. A TV film that never aired

The last forty years of Italian history condensed into almost six hours. La Meglio Gioventù by Marco Tullio Giordana, scheduled today in Un Certain Regard is a sort of Italian Heimat, seen through the eyes of two brothers. Initially, they share dreams, hopes and friendships until a chance encounter with a mentally disturbed girl changes both their destinies. The political passion and social tensions experienced by Italy from the ‘60s to the present day.

Giordana described this film as “A great story. Compared to a normal film of between 90 minutes to two hours’ duration, this lengthy film allows one to tell a number of stories contemporaneously. Just like what happens in a great novel.”
