The 19th UK Jewish Film Festival (7-22 November) will open with Nae Caranfil’s Closer to the Moon [+see also:

(Romania/US/Italy/Poland/France) and will close with Amir Wolf’s Fire Birds (Israel). The centrepiece gala will be Wayne Blair’s Septembers of Shiraz (US). The festival aims to reflect and share a greater understanding of Jewish life and culture, dispelling prejudice and fighting racism and anti-Semitism. Several venues across London, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow and Leeds will host the festival.<

From this year, the festival has launched a Best Debut Feature Award, the jury for which comprises director of the National Film & Television School Nik Powell, director Mike Newell (Great Expectations [+see also:

) plus a live script reading session for feature length comedy drama Sidney Turtlebaum. In all, the programme will feature over 80 films from 15 countries including 50 UK premieres.
