04/11/2015 - A prize for a novel by a writer under the age of 35. In Melzo from 13 to 15 November, with special guest Matteo Garrone

A cash prize to support the development of the film adaptation of a novel. This commendable initiative for promoting and supporting talented youngsters who get into writing through the audiovisual sector is being launched through the Festival Officina Italia Visioni, the first edition of which will be held in Melzo on 13, 14 and 15 November. Then on 20 November there will be an audience with Matteo Garrone and a screening of his film Tale of Tales [+see also:

film profile], which was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and tells three of the 50 fairy tales written by Gianbattista Basile and included in the book Lo cunto de li cunti. 

At the end of the three days, the Novel for Cinema Prize will be awarded, along with €2,500, to one of five literary works by the best Italian writers under the age of 35, to the one that is best suited to a film adaptation, giving the writer a cash prize for developing this adaptation. 

Organising the Festival are Antonio Scurati and Alessandro Bertante, who selected the five finalists: Marco Missiroli with Atti osceni in luogo privato, Giorgio Fontana with Morte di un uomo felice, Paolo Giordano and his Il nero e l’argento, Francesca Scotti with Il cuore inesperto, and Marco Magini with Come fossi solo. The jury is made up of 4 industry professionals, screenwriters, literary critics, directors and academics: Mauro Gervasini, Gianni Canova, Luca Lucini and Chiara Boeri.

Guests of the Festival and leading the workshops will be Salvatore De Mola and Alberto Sironi, the screenwriter and director of TV series Inspector Montalbano, Mauro Novelli who brought Andrea Camilleri’s Le storie di Montalbano to Mondadori’s ‘Meridiani’ series, and Davide De Cubellis, who wrote the storyboard for the film. Walter Veltroni will also be in attendance, meeting with the public for a discussion about literature, film and life.

During the three days, readings will be given of the work of the finalists and emerging writers Eleonora Caruso, Emanuela Carbè, Nadia Terranova, Vincenzo Latronico and Sarah Spinazzola.
