Q&A: Jerzy Skolimowski
film profile] by veteran Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski has gone home with the Best Film Prize of the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival, which drew to a close last night. The film, which follows 11 minutes in the lives of eight different characters, thus portraying the loneliness of modern society, is the Polish entry for the 2016 Academy Awards.

film profile] were also awarded at the festival with the Special Jury Prize and the Revelation Prize, respectively. The Best Short Film Award went to Piotr Zlotorowicz’s Mother Earth, whilst Gonçalo Loureiro’s Marasmo received a Special Mention.

The festival came to an end last night with several events, including the screening of Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups and a tribute to actor Luís Miguel Cintra, who recently announced the end of his career. The tribute was followed by the screening of E Não se Pode Exterminá-lo?, a 1980 film version of a theatre performance by Cintra’s company, Cornucópia, co-directed by Solveig Nordlund and Jorge Silva Melo. Cintra, who was a regular in Manoel de Oliveira’s films, was crowned with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the latest local film prizes, the Sophia Awards.
