Børning 2 ready to roll – without state support

film profile], the sequel to last year’s most popular local movie, in spite of having received no production funding from the Norwegian Film Institute.
“The audiences want Børning 2, and they will get it. Of course, it entails a certain risk making it without state support, but we are not the only one who is assuming that risk, and we have received larger contributions from our partners than we thought we would get,” Jacobsen explained. According to Børning director Hallvard Bræin, who will also direct the sequel, they have applied seven times, with no result as yet. The cast will include Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Sven Nordin, Jenny Skavlan and Otto Jespersen.

film profile] was Norway’s most popular local film in 2014, taking 381,648 admissions to become number two in the charts. It also received four Amandas, the Norwegian national film prize – namely Best Norwegian Feature, the People’s Amanda (voted for by audiences), Best Supporting Actor (for Henrik Mestad) and Best Sound Design (Fredric Vogel and Petter Fladeby).
The country’s first car-racing film, with vehicles speeding from Oslo to North Cape, was a Nordic take on Cannonball Run. “I went for the project because I thought it was time to make the first proper film on the subject in Norway,” Jacobsen explained. With the same team behind the camera, Børning 2 will send the racers from Norway through Sweden and Finland to Murmansk in Russia.
According to production advisor Arve Figenschow, of the Norwegian Film Institute, the first Børning film received €1.6 million in backing for its promotion, launch and performance in the cinemas, based on the number of tickets sold, and he predicted that the sequel could expect similar state support.
