film profile], which was released domestically six weeks ago, reaching 14,000 admissions so far, has since yesterday (16 December) been available on the Altibox, Canal Digital and Get digital networks, and is set to reach iTunes and Google in mid-January.
“It is important for us to avoid the so-called ‘black windows’ – periods when the film is not accessible on any legal platform – and since Hevn (Revenge) will not be launched on DVD, we decided on an early digital premiere,” explained Vibeke Skistad, managing director of local distributor Euforia Film. “Distributors and producers must also find other income after DVD sales have dropped so drastically. Cinema will still be our main platform for presenting the films – that is where the filmmakers want to show them first – but we also have to think of the whole life cycle of a movie.”
Scripted by Steinsbø and based on Norwegian author Ingvar Ambjørnsen’s 2001 novel The Doll in the Ceiling, Hevn (Revenge) follows 38-year-old Rebekka, who – under a false identity – goes back to a small village by the Norwegian fjords to seek revenge on the man who ruined her sister’s life. She wishes to destroy his perfect family life, turning his friends and the townsfolk against him. But she soon realises that her mission has consequences for more than just the man himself: village life begins to unravel – and she must decide how far she will go.
Starring Siren Jørgensen, Frode Winther, Maria Bock and Anders Baasmo Christiansen, the film was produced by Norwegian-German producer Kristine Knudsen for her new Bergen-based company, Den Siste Skilling, with Canada’s Alcina Pictures and US outfit Garnet Girl LLC.
