Grassadonia and Piazza collected the prize during a ceremony organised during the Sundance Film Festival. Over the remaining months until the start of the shoot, and then all the way up to the theatrical release of Sicilian Ghost Story, the directors will receive constant creative and strategic support from the Sundance Institute, in addition to a cash prize.

The shoot is scheduled for autumn this year. The casting process is currently still under way in Palermo. The main character in the movie is Luna, a 13-year-old Sicilian girl who simply cannot accept that Giuseppe, the boy she loves, has disappeared. In order to find him, Luna descends into the murky world that swallowed him up – a world she can only access via a mysterious gateway in a lake. The film is being produced by Massimo Cristaldi for Cristaldi Pics and by Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima and Carlotta Calori for Indigo Film, in co-production with France via MACT Productions and JPG Films, and with Germany via The Match Factory, which will also take care of the international sales.
