Punto de Vista turns ten

The Baluarte conference centre in Pamplona will again be the base of operations for Punto de Vista, set to unspool between 8 and 14 February. The tenth Navarre International Documentary Film Festival will dedicate a retrospective – dubbed “The House and the World” – to late French filmmaker Jean-Daniel Pollet, which will host the world premiere of Jean-Daniel, parle moi encore!, a portrait created by his colleague Jean-Paul Fargier for the Cinéastes de notre temps series. Another premiere will be the presentation of Cinematógrafo, magnetófono, buen chico y sádico, Carles Candela's biographical profile of Antonio Maenza, the focus of the Heterodocsias sidebar, where audiences will be able to enjoy the three films that the late artist directed.
223 Words, on the other hand, is very much alive and kicking – it is an omnibus film that the festival is using to respond to the sentence requested for Iranian filmmaker Keywan Karimi. He was given six years in prison and 223 lashes as punishment for his movie (which is being presented in the official section) Writing on the City, about graffiti and mural paintings as forms of expression and freedom in Tehran: Agnès Varda, Isaki Lacuesta and Basilio Martín Patino, among others, have offered some words.
The latest title by Proyecto X Films, Carretera de una sola dirección by Xiana Gómez-Diaz (read more), will also be premiered, and the section dedicated to time and cinema, called Ten Years Older – the gathering's age – will be opened and closed by two of its movies: Il pianeta azzurro by Italian director Franco Piavoli and Vita Brevis by Belgian filmmaker Thierry Knauff.
