09/02/2016 - Thomas Vinterberg’s The Commune and nine other titles are to be shown in competition at the gathering

Still enthusiastic about the success of its previous edition – which beat all attendance records – the Luxembourg City Film Festival (LCFF) has entered the final weeks of preparations for its sixth edition, which will unspool from 25 February-6 March at several venues in the Grand Duchy’s capital.

A competitive event since 2012, the LCFF features two main prizes – fiction (€10,000) and documentary (€5,000) – in addition to a Youth Prize worth €2,000.

The fiction competition section will present a total of ten recent titles, nine of which were produced or co-produced by European companies: Alias Maria [+see also:

Furthermore, the documentary competition will present eight titles, including Eldorado [+see also:

film profile], co-directed by Rui Eduardo Abreu, Thierry Besseling and Loïc Tanson, a Luxembourgish production following four descendants of the Portuguese emigration to the Grand Duchy.

Eldorado is actually just one of the nine local titles (including both fiction films and documentaries) set to be presented at the festival, which has even created a cross-cutting section named “Made in/with Luxembourg”, which aims to underline the presence of local talent in international co-productions, particularly with neighbouring countries Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Chinese director and screenwriter Xiaoshuai Wang will head up the international jury, which also includes Cuban director Gerardo Chijona, Russian/French actress Dinara Drukarova and French author Vincent Ravalec.

The films will be screened at a number of locations, including the Cinémathèque, Ciné Utopia, Utopolis, the Magic Mirrors headquarters and Cercle Cité.
