April will see the start of the second leg of the shoot for Dutch director Jaap van Heusden’s In Blue [+see also:
film profile] – scheduled to take place in Romania and then the Netherlands. It is van Heusden’s new feature project after his debut, Win/Win [+see also:
film profile], which premiered at the IFFR in 2010, and his TV movie The New World [+see also:
film profile] (2013).
Co-written by the director along with Jan Willem den Bok, the film tells the story of forty-something Dutch flight attendant Lin, who has to help deliver a baby in mid-air, which leaves her off kilter. She then meets 15-year-old Nicu, who is living on the streets of Bucharest, and gets involved in a confusing mother/lover relationship with him.
The cast includes charismatic Dutch actress Maria Kraakman (Schneider Vs Bax [+see also:

film profile]) in the lead role, as well as emerging Romanian talent Bogdan Iancu, who already co-starred in Bogdan Dreyer’s 2013 title A Farewell to Fools [+see also:
film profile], alongside Gérard Depardieu and Harvey Keitel.
In Blue is being produced by Marc Bary for Amsterdam-based outfit IJswater Films, and is being co-produced by Belgium’s Caviar and Romania’s Strada Films, with the support of Dutch public broadcaster NTR and the Netherlands Film Fund. Distributor Paradiso will handle In Blue's theatrical release in the Benelux at the beginning of 2017.
