ICAA ups support

Following repeated appeals from the industry, Spain’s Institute for Cinema and the Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) announced it was increasing its contribution towards the distribution of European films in Iberian theatres in 2003 by Euros260,000, from the initial amount of Euros521,000 to Euros781,000. The money covers print production, subtitling and advertising and was requested by the industry after the controversial 33 per cent budget cuts that were announced in ICAA’s official bulletin of January 2002. Predictably, this news generated huge industry anxiety and perplexed operators, given the serious crisis both distribution and production are experiencing.
Headed by José Maria Otero, this move by ICAA underlines the institution’s clear intention to fulfil its mission: encourage and facilitate the circulation of European cinema in Iberia.
