Norsk Film cuts production
Stein Slyngstad, head of the Norwegian Film Fund declared a state of emergency that necessitates a NKR20m-plus (Euros2.538m) cut in feature film production and reducing the number of films produced annually to 15.
Paradoxically, the reason for this state of affairs is the success of a number of domestic productions: under the Norwegian system, the producers will receive substantial box office bonuses paid out by the Fund that will result in a shortfall of around DKR70m (NKR8.884m) instead of the forecast NKR51m (Euros6.473m).
Despite the Fund’s meeting with the Norwegian Council of State in March of this year, no new sources of investment have been found and the Norwegian Film Fund said it was unlikely the shortfall would be met before 2005.
