- The new organisation standing up for Dutch distributors is the result of a merger between the NVF and NVPI Video
1 April will see the birth of a new organisation named Film Distributors Netherlands (FDN), which aims to represent the interests of local film distributors, in the fields of both theatrical distribution and home entertainment. Its creation is the result of a merger between the Dutch trade association for theatrical distributors, NVF, and the industry organisation for home-entertainment distributors, NVPI Video.
The merged organisation will be able to work efficiently on matters that are of major importance when it comes to creating a sustainable, economic and viable film distribution market in the Netherlands. Its activities will encompass lobbying and public affairs, collective promotion, providing market information and fighting against piracy.
Another reason for the merger is the wealth of changes within the two markets. While the film business is enjoying healthy growth, the home-entertainment market needs to evolve through new business and distribution models, which can effectively deal with the illegal downloading of films and TV series. All of these developments have made distributors realise that they would benefit from an active and modern trade association.
The new organisation will be serviced by NVPI, the Dutch entertainment industry trade association that represents film, audio and games.
