Admissions up by 24% in the first quarter of 2016 in Italian cinemas
- Amost 40 million tickets sold, with Italian film taking over 46% of the market
2016 is off to a great start for Italian cinemas. According to data from Cinetel, which reports 93% of admissions for the entire market, between 1 January and 31 March almost 40 million tickets were sold: a 24% increase on the same period in 2015.
These are considerable results, especially for Italian film with over 46% of the market, a significant increase on the percentage it held over the same period last year. Among the films that have had the biggest contribution to this are Quo vado? [+see also:

“This first quarter has been characterised by a series of strong films that have drawn in audiences”, confirmed Andrea Occhipinti, the president of the Distributors section of ANICA. “We are committed to consolidating at least two CinemaDays promotional events a year, offering audiences the chance to see big films for just €3. We want to draw new viewers into cinemas and get those who already go to the cinema to go more often. Film on the big screen is something that should be celebrated”. Scheduled to run between 11-14 April, CinemaDays is organised by film industry associations ANEC, ANEM, and ANICA, with the support of the Directorate General for Film of the Ministry for Cultural Activities and Heritage and Tourism.
