Bernard Declercq is a Belgian scriptwriter, director and visual artist. Following two short films (Big Sam(uel) and L’Hôtel des Termes), he co-directed his first feature film, Control X (with Thomas François), in 2007. In Méprises [+see also:

film profile] (lit. “Mistakes”), he adapts Alain Monnier’s novel Côté Jardin. Jacques Mahieux is a lucky man, the man chosen by Françoise, a magnificent but fragile woman. So fragile, in fact, that her husband, Doctor Lepage, has to watch over her daily, protecting her from anything that could harm her. In particular, he ensures that all the “butterflies” fluttering around her are kept at a distance.
Cast in the role of Françoise is French actress Moana Ferré, often seen treading the boards. The two men who are tearing each other apart, Doctor Lepage and Jacques Mahieux, are respectively played by Pascal Greggory, one of Patrice Chéreau’s pet actors, recently appearing in Olivier Marchal’s telefilm Section Zéro and Pascal Bonitzer’s feature film Tout de suite maintenant [+see also:

Méprises is being co-produced by Jean-Luc Vandamme for Survive Films and Nicolas George for Les Films du Carré, which recently co-produced Fara Sène’s Etre. The film has received backing from the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Wallimage. Filming for the project is slated to take place from 11 April to 19 May, mainly in the province of Liège.
