Eva Nová dominates Slovakia’s national awards
- Marko Škop’s fiction feature debut won five awards at the Sun in a Net ceremony

Slovakia’s national Sun in a Net film awards, organised by the Slovak Film and Television Academy, have handed out the prizes for their 2016 edition. The undisputed winner turned out to be Marko Škop’s fiction feature debut, Eva Nová [+see also:

film profile], a drama about an ageing actress trying to rebuild her relationship with her son and attempting to get her life back on track after it has been ravaged by her alcoholism. It netted Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress. Meanwhile, Ivan Ostrochovský’s fiction feature debut, Koza [+see also:

film profile], a gripping docudrama about a boxer trying to raise money by being beaten to a pulp in the ring so that his girlfriend does not have to go through with an abortion, snagged two technical accolades: Best Cinematography and Best Sound. The same number of awards went to Alice Nellis’ fairy tale Seven Ravens [+see also:

film profile], in the categories of Best Production Design and Best Costumes/Make-up. The Best Documentary Award went to Jaro Vojtek for So Far, So Near, about families living with autistic children. The research that went into the documentary also inspired one episode in his feature fiction debut, Children [+see also:
