One year after it premiered in Cannes, Michael Winterbottom’s tale of 1980s Manchester rock scene, 24 Hour Party People [+see also:

, is finally out on 60 French screens today, by courtesy of Les Films du Paradoxe.Fans of 80s bands like Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays have a treat in store with this documentary-style feature about journalist and manager, Tony Wilson and his Factory Records label.
Winterbottom’s having won a Golden Bear award at the last edition of the Berlinale for In This World certainly contributed to 24-Hour Party People finding a Gallic distributor although this title is an example of the confusion that reigns in the pan-European distribution of European titles. 24-Hour Party People was released in the UK in April 2002, followed by Norway, Denmark and Greece in August, and Spain in January 2003. The situation is furthermore complicated by Winterbottom's prolific work style: his latest film, Code 46, starring Jeanne Baliban and Tim Robbins, is already in post-production.
