EXHIBITORS Italy

Box office automation

by

As of 1 July, all Italian cinemas will be equipped with automated box offices that replace the traditional cinema ticket. The new system monitors daily and monthly attendance figures.
Those exhibitors who, through no fault of their own, have not yet installed the new equipment are likely to be given a few days’ grace by the Italian Finance Ministry and a decision will be made regarding this sometime over the next fortnight.
On 4 May Finance Ministry representative, Francesco Salerno spoke to Italy’s theatrical exhibitors at a special seminar organised by Siae (Italian Authors’ & Publishers’ Association) at the Summer Screenings in Taormina, Sicily, where he illustrated all the fiscal innovations they will have to implement according to Law n°398, once the new box office system is fully up and running.
