Last Friday saw the start of the shoot for La vita in comune [+see also:

film profile], the new feature by Edoardo Winspeare (who took part in the Berlinale Panorama in 2014 with Quiet Bliss [+see also:

film profile]), in Salento. Produced by Saietta Film (Edoardo Winspeare, Gustavo Caputo and Alessandro Contessa) with Rai Cinema, and written by Winspeare himself together with Alessandro Valenti, the movie is slated as being halfway between reality and a fairy tale.

The story unfolds in the imaginary municipality of Disperata, where a mournful mayor and poet (Gustavo Caputo) finds solace from the attacks of all the councillors – including those of Eufemia (Celeste Casciaro), whom he’s secretly in love with – by doing charity work in prison. There, his most conscientious “student” is Pati Rrunza, a convicted felon who is feared and respected all over town; but he is also Eufemia’s ex-husband and father to Biagetto. Biagetto and his Uncle Angiolino, a small-time crook, look up to Pati as a hero. But what would happen if Pati took up poetry? And what does Pope Francis have to do with the plans for a zoo?

Other cast members in La vita in comune include Claudio Giangreco, Antonio Carluccio, Davide Riso, Lamberto Probo, Giorgio Casciaro, Alessandra De Luca and Anna Boccadamo. The cinematography has been entrusted to Giorgio Giannoccaro, the production design to Sabrina Balestra and the editing to Andrea Facchini. The film will be made in association with the Banca Popolare Pugliese and Oaks Estate, with the collaboration of Tea Time Film and backing from the Apulia Film Commission.
