Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, who plays the lead in Danish director Peter Schønau Fog’s upcoming You Disappear [+see also:

film profile], alongside Trine Dyrholm and Nikolaj Lie Kaas, will make his directorial debut with Small & Big Bug, where he will also perform as the main character: a provincial veterinarian tired of healing sick pets, instead dreaming of sailing around the world.

Produced by Carola Hansson and Börje Hansson’s Bright Moving Pictures, with Swedish regional film centre Film Väst, pubcaster SVT, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning and Twentieth Century Fox, the film boasts a script by Swedish screenwriter Anders Tempelman. It follows the vet as he catches the clinic’s manager fiddling the EU's rural support, and sees the chance to make his dream come true.

“It will be great fun to make a movie from Tempelman's wonderful script about a shortcut to freedom, which I think many dream about,” Nyqvist said at the Cannes Film Festival. The film will shoot in the Västra Götaland region (where Film Väst is based) during September and October 2016, and is scheduled to premiere during the autumn of 2017.
