27/05/2016 - The Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival, which ends on 28 May, has announced its winners' list

During a ceremony held on 25 May, the winners of the 18^th Docaviv – Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival were announced. The festival, whose new edition ends on 28 May after having drawn in larger audiences than ever before, awarded its two main prizes to Polish filmmaker Karolina Bielawska’s Call Me Marianna [+see also:

film profile] and Israeli filmmaking duo Tali Shemesh and Asaf Sudry’s Death in the Terminal [+see also:

Bielawska’s film won the Best International Film Award, given out by a jury comprising Israeli members who stated that the film “is a touching portrait of a woman who risks all that is dear to her to find her true self, paying a heavy price. The film is wonderfully crafted by a director who gently weaves a human story full of love, pain and compassion." 

The film by Shemesh and Sudry won the Best Israeli Film Award, bestowed by the Israeli competition jury “for transcending the apathy of surveillance footage by using them to create a sharp cinematic mirror of an Israeli society inundated by messages of incitement and racism in times of fear”. The film also got the Best Original Music Award. In the same section, the other main winner was Yael Kipper and Ronen Zaretzky’s Child Mother, which received the Special Jury Mention and the Best Cinematography Award.

Lastly, the Director Award of FEDEORA, the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean went to Vitaly Mansky’s Under the Sun [+see also:
