FUNDING Sweden

Grants to make films in schools

by

The SFI- Svenska Filminstitutet, which has been supporting productions aimed at the youth and children’s market since 1988, has earmarked Swedish Krona 2m (Euro 219,444) for the period covering 2003-4, to support film activities in schools covering 40 local communities.
Last year 166 boroughs were involved in the project, but only 58 of these benefited from funding from the SFI- Svenska Filminstitutet. The funding is paid in full in the first year and it enables schools to start a three year project, to be complimented by grants from local institutions.
The board of management of the SFI- Svenska Filminstitutet met with a group of experts from the sector on May 22, and one of the new initiatives being undertaken is to set up more long term financing, renewable every 4 years.
