Karaoké in Brussels

by

The director Els Dietvorst is currently shooting her first feature length film, called Karaoké, in Brussels. It’s a new step forward in her filmmaking career as up until now she has concentrated on making short works, including De Laatste Nacht van de Nachtman, which was premiered at the KunstenFestivaldesArts in Brussels last month.

The story of Karaoké is centred around the many facets of human nature, the qualities, defects, fears and dreams. It’s an original work and to create it, the director collaborated with the immigrants who live in the Anneessens area of Brussels, writing the screenplay together with them, in order to perfect the authenticity of the characters. Els Dietvorst wanted a technical team made up of seasoned professionals, like Rémon Fromont, the famous director of photography for the films by Chantal Akerman and by Marion Hänsel.
