The second and final RACCONTI #5 workshop (11-17 June), the annual Script Lab run by the IDM – Alto Adige Film Fund & Commission dedicated to developing TV series, has drawn to a close in Mühlbach, Trentino-Alto Adige.

After making a start on the works in April during the first workshop, over the last few days the 11 screenwriters taking part – hailing from Italy, Germany, the USA and Poland – headed into the three writers’ rooms to resume the development of the concepts for TV series proposed by television production companies Palomar (for Italy) and Letterbox (for Germany). The participants’ writing work was supervised by a seasoned head writer.

The work in the writers' room provided by Palomar was overseen by Margherita Murolo (who works in the production branch of the TV company and curates various television projects, including The Red Band Society and The Young Montalbano); meanwhile, one of the Letterbox writers' rooms was supervised by Torsten Götz (a development producer for the German TV production house, who was awarded the Deutscher Fernsehpreis and also has a bronze medal from the New York Festivals under his belt), and the other was mentored by Sibylle Stellbrink (a producer at Real Film Berlin, a partner of Studio Hamburg).

Another person in the Palomar writers’ room was working as a show runner: US screenwriter James V Hart (Steven Spielberg’s Hook and the series Crossbones), who, together with British producer Manda Levin (a script editor for BBC Drama and executive producer on The Tunnel, a thriller series for Canal+), led a number of interesting master classes during the first RACCONTI #5 workshop, in which they offered the writers an analysis of some of the most successful American and European TV shows.

In autumn, the concepts of these three TV series will finally be presented to Italian and German producers interested in beginning a co-production with Palomar and Letterbox, during several pitch sessions at the Filmfest Hamburg and the Rome Film Fest.
