by

A competition for international cinema to highlight original films and support their circulation. Once again this year the Royal Belgium Film Library is organising the traditional competition, l'Age d'Or & Cinédécouvertes, which will be taking place from July 1 to 16, at the Film Museum in Brussels.

The jury will award the “Age d'Or” prize (Euro 5,000) to the winner out of the 20 nominated films, for the director who "stands out for the originality and excellence of their ideas and writing". In addition, this event, which was founded in 1958 as a tribute to Luis Buñuel, will also be awarding two Cinescoperte prizes (Euro 7,500) to two films that have still not been distributed in Belgium.

The complete programme is still to be confirmed, but some films have already found a place on the schedule: Sharasojyu by Naomi Kawase, Oasis by the Korean director, Chang-Dong Lee and Father and Son by Alexandre Sokurov.
