This is the latest in an avalanche of recognitions for the Swiss-French co-production, which began with the FIPRESCI Award it pocketed when the film premiered at the Berlinale last February.
Aloys tells the story of a misanthropic private investigator who sees his sad and predictable life invaded by a mysterious woman, with whom he eventually engages in an imaginary love affair. Starting as a tale of loneliness with thriller undertones, the movie soon opts for a more imaginary and surreal path, which leads the viewer on a pleasant journey through the fears and desires of the human mind.
In the Documentary competition, the Golden Lynx went to Portuguese title Brothers by Pedro Magano. Shot in the Azores, the film depicts the journey of a group of male pilgrims who continue, year after year, with an ancestral tradition that is virtually unknown outside the island of Sao Miguel. Magano and his tiny crew followed them for 11 days and took seven months to edit the film. The result is a visually stunning work about human altruism and abnegation.
