Sinapi wins in Cabourg

Vivre me tue by Jean-Pierre Sinapi won the Grand Prix 2003 at the Romantic Film Festival of Cabourg, which ended on Saturday 14 June. This year’s winners also included Isabelle Adjani, Bernard Giraudeau, Jalil Lespert and Morgane Morè.

Sinapi’s second feature film was universally acclaimed by all those in Cabourg and its male lead, Jalil Lespert won the best newcomer award. Results such as these bode well for this film which is scheduled for release on to 50 Gallic screens on Wednesday 18 June. Basedon a novel by Paul Smaïl, produced and distributed by Cinétévé, and co-produced by Arte France Cinéma and Pandora Filmproduktion, the cast of Vivre me tue (Living Kills Me) features three of France’s best known young stars: Sylvie Testud (winner of 2000 best actress César for Les Blessures Assassines, Jalil Lespert (1999 Cèsar for best male newcomer for Human Resources) and Sami Bouajila (Embrassez qui vous voudrez).

Antoine de Caunes’ jury also rewarded the work of Isabelle Adjani (best actress) for Benoît Jacquot’s Adolphe, Bernard Giraudeau (best actor) for Ce jour-là by Raoul Ruiz, Jean-Paul Rappeneau took home the best director nod for Bon Voyage and Morgane Moré was named female revelation of the year for Peau d’ange by Vincent Perez. The cast of Xavier Giannoli’s Les Corps impatients, Laura Smet, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Marie Denarnaud, received a surprise special mention.
