As Wallimage celebrated its 15th birthday last week, the Walloon fund rounded off its 80th funding session, one which was marked by an influx of alluring films that superseded the usual standards, and by opposing styles, between films from various countries around Europe bearing the hallmarks of cinephiles and French productions aimed very openly at the general public.

Entre Chien et Loup brings The Book of Vision to Belgium, an ambitious project by Carlo Hintermann which follows the trajectory of Eva, a young promising doctor posted to a Romanian hospital, who decides to abandon her career in medicine to dedicate herself to studying History of Medicine at an American university. There, she meets Kevin, an atypical tutor, and comes across the story of an 18th century doctor in the university’s archives which fascinates her. She gets so involved in the story that slowly but surely, the two eras start to overlap until they merge into one. Alongside Dutch actress Carice van Houten (Melisandre in Game of Thrones) in this film are Jérémie Rénier and Gabriel Byrne. The film is notably being co-produced by Terrence Malick.

), which is being led by Wrong Men, and follows on from her Irish adventure in Pilgrimage, which was also co-produced by Savage Film.

On the French side of things, there are two mainstream comedies that are sure to pull in audiences on the starting blocks. Bras ouverts, the new feature film by Philippe de Chauveron, the director of Serial (Bad) Weddings [+see also:

, brings an intellectual boho whose house is suddenly invaded by a family of Romany gypsies, jeopardising his largely open-minded mentality. The film is being co-produced by Nexus. It is uMedia, on the other hand, that will co-produce Alexandre lui-même by Hervé Jakubowitz, a comedy about reincarnation starring Manu Payet (Dad in Training [+see also:

The final project to have been chosen is a documentary, André Cools – Une vie, un destin by Daniel Remi, which explores the fate of the Walloon politician, an extinct creature these days.
