"Till" takes on Disney

- September will see the domestic release of Eberhardt Junkersdorf's Euros 15million Till Eugenspiegel, announced as Germany’s biggest ever animated feature film

September will see the release of what has been widely touted as Germany’s biggest-ever domestic animated feature, Till Eugenspiegel and the title with which its producer and director Eberhardt Junkersdorf’s Muencher Firma intends challenging Disney’s domination of this genre.
After winning an Oscar for Die Blechtrommel (The Tin Drum) by Volker Schloendorff and directed two very successful children’s titles, Die furchtlosen Vier and Hilfe, ich bin ein Fishch (Help, I’m a fish), Junkersdorf drew inspiration from the 1868 classic of European literature for children, “Till L’Espiègle” by Flemish writer, C.T.H. de Coster. This book was also behind French cinema icon Gérard Philipe’s one excursion into film directing with his eponymous 1956 feature.
"Till has a big heart and he is part child, part adult,” said Junkersdorf who combined classic craftsmanship with cutting-edge hi-tech when directing Till Eugenspiegel. The film was made with a Euros15m budget and with the benefit of advice from John McClenahan, one of America’s leading animation directors.
