AFM vs MIFED?
by Cineuropa
Starting from 2004, the American Film Market is changing its scheduled dates to November 3-10. The announcement was made this morning in the online edition of the publications "Variety" and "Screendaily", who both stressed that the dates clash with those for Mifed (Cinema and Television International Multimedia Market), the traditional Milan marketplace, which this year is taking place for the week between November 9-13. The idea of changing the date for the American appointment had already been mentioned at Cannes. The date change also enables AFM to join forces with the Los Angeles International Film Festival (November 4 -14). The president of the AFMA (American Film Marketing Association), Jean M. Prewitt, stresses that the new dates have nothing to do with entering into direct competition with Mifed: "We looked at what date worked the best for our event. We aren't looking at other competitive events."
