by Marco Tullio Giordana is scheduled for release on two Parisian screens and one in Lyon on 9 July. The six-hour film that was made for television was sold in Cannes by RaiTrade to French distributor, Océan Films prior to the film’s winning Un Certain Regard. A number of territories have already picked this title up including Israel, Benelux with negotiations ongoing with the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
The Paris premiere was organised by Ocean, the Paris office of ICE (the Italian foreign trade body), Rai Trade and Italia Cinema is scheduled for 23 June at the Balzac Cinema (situated in the VIII arrondissement) before an audience that will include the director, Alessio Boni and Luigi Lo Cascio.
This title was extremely well-received by French critics: “Le Monde” wrote “from the first moments it is clear that this family story will lead us off the well-beaten track(...) towards the essential concept of cinema”. “Variety” lauded the film for being “both the longest and shortest of the festival” forecasting a hugely successful international life cycle similar to that enjoyed by Heimat and Berlin, Alexanderplatz.
The film will screen in the original Italian with French subtitles.
