MEETINGS France

Beaune 2003

by

French authors, directors' and producers' guild, l’ARP, is organising the 13th edition of one of the Gallic industry’s most important events: the Beaune Meeting (23-26 October 2003), presided over by the successor to Claude Lelouch, fellow filmmaker Alain Corneau.
As well as everyone who’s anyone in the French film industry, leading personalities from the worlds of culture, politics and high finance come to Beaune in order for a fully comprehensive overview of the national and European film industies. This year’s programme features five key issues, the two main ones being the enlargement of the EU and the impact this will have on the Continent’s film and cultural affairs, and cultural diversity, with debates about the WTO (World Trade Organisation) talks and the future of a put forward by several countries for the establishment of a global constitution for cultural diversity under the umbrella of UNESCO.

The other three issues focus upon the more technical aspects of the film industry: Digital Cinema will analyse the consequences of the digital revolution and its impact on exhibition, following that on production and post-production. A round table discussion about DVDs will examine the incredible pace and popularity of this format and try to find ways in which European creativity can benefit and last but by no means least, Technological Innovation, where the latest inventions in the film industry will be illustrated and explained.
