Zafir is released
During the summer months, the Scandinavian and especially Danish film industries tend to focus on films for children and families. On Friday 26 June Malene Vilstrup’s live action feature entitled Zafir is scheduled for release.
After
graduating from the Danish Film School, Vilstrup studied under Jannik Hastrup, a Scandinavian past-master of film animation, and in 1996 she won the best animated film and best artistic direction awards at the Albany Festival for A Shaggy Dog Story.
Zafir is Vilstrup’s live action debut and is the story of two children whose difficult family backgrounds create a bond that allows them to hope in a better future.
Produced by Zentropa Entertainments 9, the film also received DKR6.4m (Euros862,000) from the Danish Film Institute.
Nordisk Film Biografdistribution is releasing the film domestically with Trust Film handling the international sales.
