The tenth edition of the Mostar Film Festival (24-30 November), one of the few such events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, transformed from the Mostar Film Days into a competitive festival focused on actors from the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
“We started this event as a small gathering of friends from the region, at a time when the city did not have a single cinema,” says festival director, actor and producer Slaven Knezović. “Three years ago, Mostar got a multiplex, but we carefully kept building our festival to make it a proper highlight with the right timing.”
The boutique selection of competition titles was limited to seven films from 2016, including the Oscar submissions for Best Foreign-language Film from Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia and Macedonia.
The two main awards, statuettes called Trees of Love, went to Croatia: Ksenija Marinković won Best Lead Actress for her role in Zrinko Ogresta's On the Other Side [+see also:

“The selection was of a very high quality. In my opinion, these were indeed the best acting achievements in the region this year,” jury member Sandra Rančić, the director of Belgrade's up-and-coming music film festival DOK N' RITAM, told Cineuropa. “With a lot of love and hard work, the Mostar Film Festival has put its city back on the film map of the region, and I believe it will soon become the benchmark event in its field.”
