The Swedish Film Institute chips in €3 million for 17 new films

The Swedish Film Institute has allocated €3 million to 17 new films, six of which are features and 11 shorts. Swedish directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein's Swoon [+see also:

, which have also been supported by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, will receive the lion's share of the local funding: €1 million and €900,000, respectively.

Superswede was the nickname of Swedish racing legend Ronnie Peterson, who is the subject of Swedish director Henrik Jansson-Schweizer's documentary of the same name, which Mia Sohlman will produce for Nice Drama. With a screenplay by Morgan Jensen, it is described as an epic journey back to a time when racing was known for its glamour, daring, heroics and big business. It was a sport that in ten years killed more than 12 drivers, including Peterson himself (who died in a 1978 crash at Monza).

Swedish producer David Herdies, of Momento Film, and Georgian producer Lasha Khalvashi will stage Georgian writer-director Tinatin Kajrishvili's Horizon [+see also:

, "an intimate marital drama on the concept of handling loss". It follows Georgi, who, when he learns of his wife's desire to leave him, escapes to a solitary island. She follows him to reach some sort of closure, but although she is troubled by his existence, she finds it difficult to abandon him.

, a co-production by Sweden's Drago Films (Olle Wirenhed) and Greece's Homemade Films, will be helmed by Greek director Syllas Tzoumerkas. Scripted by Youla Boudali and Tzoumerkas, it portrays the socially isolated Rita, who kills her bullying brother and tries to make it look like suicide. A corrupt police inspector investigating the case has to find a way out both for Rita and for herself.
