Inspired by the Manchester music scene of the 80s and bands like New Order, the latest film from Michael Winterbottom reflects the consequences of British society of Margaret Thatcher´s rule. If covers the progression from glam-rock bands as exemplified by Duran Duran to the emergence of the rave culture and underground groups born of tiny provincial music clubs. The title is taken from a song the Happy Mondays wrote about the endless rave parties held in Manchester´s notorious Hacienda club. It illustrates the spirit of this film perfectly.
