- A seaside showcase where Gallic exhibitors, distributors and producers will try to encourage summer attendance nationwide

The perfect set for a film about pirates, Saint-Malo will host the 4th edition of Festival des Films d'été. Created as a summer showcase for films, this year's programme includes the premieres of 22 French and international films.

The jury, presided over this year by Jean Becker ( Effroyables jardins) who succeeded fellow Gallic filmmaker Catherine Breillat, will choose the best of 7 French films in competition. Last year's winner was Christophe Loisillon with Ma Caméra et moi. The line up includes Mes enfants ne sont pas comme les autres by Denis Dercourt (a Les films à un dollar production that was co-produced by France's Roissy Films and Belgium's Panache Productions) and Nos enfants chéris by Benoît Cohen (produced by Attention Moteur !). Saint-Malo will close with the screening of Michel Boujenah's directorial debut, Père et fils, starring Philippe Noiret and Charles Berling.

The festival will also host a debate for industry operators about "the financial consequences of the summer season". French distributors and exhibitors are currently engaged in a running battle to persuade producers to encourage summer releases.
