Nordic humour triumphs
Rome's short film festival, Arcipelago showed its appreciation for Nordic humour. The jury chose a Norwegian comedy entitled United We Stand by Hans Petter Moland as the winner of the Onde Corte international competition. The film is a metaphor for the gradual decline of Europe's left-wing parties. Five elderly militants are swallowed by quicksand as they try to rescue an excursionits in trouble. And they go down singing the "International". United We Stand is part of a Norwegian short film project called "Utopia". The Onde Corte special prize was won by Switzerland's Frédéric Mermoud for L’Escalier (leggi l’ interview).
Il Vuoto (The Void) by the visionary Milan-based Italian filmmaker, Giacomo Gatti won the Italian short film competition called “Concorto”.
The victors in the digital E-MOVIE section were as follows: Tim Tom by Christel Pougeoise and Romain Segaud (France) - best Computer Animation; Terminal Bar by Stephen Nadelmann (USA) took home the best DV short prize and Italy’s Heterogenic, about GM crops, by Raimondo Della Calce and Primo Dreossi was deemed the best Italian DV short. The prizes were both cash and equipment provided by the event’s numerous sponsors.
