The Lisbon Meeting
Iberian, Portuguese and Brazilian film producers gathered in Lisbon on 21 and 22 June, to discuss new co-production deals and to analyse current legislation, funding and tax breaks for the film sector in the three territories.
The event was organised by the Portuguese Audiovisual and Multimedia institute, ICAM, Spain’s Audiovisual Producers’ Association, FAPAE, and the Brazilian Film Agency.
High on the agenda was the revision and possible reform to in-place co-production deals, in order to adapt them for other marketplaces. A proposal was drawn up to increase the minimum investment that designates a given film as a co-production between two or more countries from the current 10 per cent to 20 per cent of the budget. The proposal will be presented to ICAM and the Spanish Audiovisual Arts Institute, ICAA for evaluation.
Portugal’s film producers presented a number of projects regarding the domestic implementation of the “Television Without Frontiers” directive. They based their deliberations on the Spanish scheme under which Iberian TV companies are obliged to invest at least 5 per cent of their annual profits in the purchase of European films.
